What is the simple description of the technology that is used in the Advanced Lamps lamp?

Our lamp technology is UHR (Ultra high pressure Mercury lamp for replacement) or AUP (Advanced Lamps Ultra-High-Pressure Mercury Lamp for projector). UHR and AUP technology lamps both utilize a vapor or gaseous discharge which takes place in mercury vapor. Radiation from the mercury arc produced is confined to four specific wavelengths in the visible portion of the spectrum and several strong lines in the ultraviolet spectrum. Hey, it is as simple as we could get it! Back To Top

What is a genuine AL Lamp?

AL represents Advanced Lamps and these lamps are made with UHR technology explained above. The housing for these bulbs is made using the same mold as the original model. Some models are not available in UHR. These will be replaced with the original lamp as produced by the original manufacturer. Back To Top

Do the lamps come with the housing?

Advanced Lamps offers replacements that include both the housing and bulb. Lamps that include the housing (plastic cage sometimes with metal part, screw, and connector, etc), are called lamp modules.*

*There are a few replacements out there that do not require housing by design. Some examples are the Sharp CLMP series as well as some popular Zenith bulbs. In short, if you are pulling out a lamp and cartridge from your unit, that is exactly what is for sale here! Back To Top

How to replace the lamp in your projector?

We highly recommend you send the old lamp module to your local service center if you do not already have extensive technical knowledge of projectors and/or electrical hardware. Back To Top

What are tips of extending the lifetime of a lamp?

  • Donít keep the projector in a closed chamber without ventilation, or any circumstance that makes the projector overheat; excessive heat will result in a shorter lifetime of the projector and your lamp.
  • Operate your projector in a clean and dustless environment. Using an air cleaning machine in the room is also helpful
  • Clean air filters regularly. Utilize the "economy mode" if it is available with your projector model.
  • Turn off the projector to ensure that it is able to receive the adequate cool-down period that is stated in the user manual.
  • If you are restarting your projector you must wait five minutes between the off and on period.
  • Don't shake or vibrate the projector when it is on, especially when the projector is in cooling down mode. At this time the bulb is extremely fragile.
  • Lamps are fragile in many circumstances. When changing a Lamp, never touch the actual bulb (or burner) itself. The oils from your fingers may stay on the bulb causing heating spots. This may cause the bulb to explode or burn out faster when the overhead projector is on; use a cloth or a tissue to handle the bulb.

Does Advanced Lamps have a recycling program?

YES! Replacement lamps are pressurized to extreme levels and contain chemicals such as Mercury; this is hazardous to lives and the environment. Lamps disposal needs to be addressed properly. In the interests of safety and responsible disposal, Advanced Lamps will dispose of your used lamp if you ship them to us. Please address the box to:

How long is my warranty?

The manufacturer's warranty starts from the date of purchase and is valid for 180 days except where otherwise noted. Extended warranties are available and can be purchased up to 30 days from the initial date of purchase. Back To Top

How do I obtain my warranty replacement?

First, you must send an e-mail to warranty@advancedlamps.com stating that you are still in your warranty period and you are requesting a replacement lamp. Once a representative receives your e-mail they will send you a warranty form; we ask you to fill out that form and send it back (by e-mail). Our representatives will then send you further instructions. With all warranty claims, Advanced Lamps is the middle man between the manufacturer and you, the customer. Warranty periods are set by the manufacturer and are non-negotiable. Back To Top

I have just installed my lamp and the replace lamp light is still on?

  • There is a safety option in most RPTVs and projectors where the lamp door must be closed and secured in order for the unit to operate and provide the needed electrical current to start up the lamp. There is a sensor on the lamp door that monitors if it is closed; if the door is bent or damaged it may not be able to read this indicator.
  • If there is no start up noise, this is an easy way of detecting a problem that could involve the power board or ballast. The power board and ballast are the mechanisms which provide the balanced energy necessary to operate the lamp.
  • If the television or projector is making fast clicking noises during start up this can also indicate a weak or failing ballast which will cause the lamp to fail the ignition phase. In turn causing flickering or not providing light to your unit.
  • Most televisions as well as projectors must be reset to enable the use of a new lamp. Please refer to your ownerís manual for the correct instructions for lamp replacement and installation. If you encounter trouble finding this information feel free to contact our support staff for assistance. Be sure to have your unitís model number available.

Can I test my lamp with an AMP or OHM Meter?

Testing a projector lamp is impossible to do with your typical household electrical equipment.

Projector lamps are a complex and different technology than most household or traditional electronics and therefore it is important to know certain facts when attempting to test a projector lamp.

1. Projector lamps use customized ballasts that ignite the lamp by charging it with a higher voltage in the ignition phase and then dropping down to a lower running voltage once the circuit is created.

2. Projector lamps CANNOT be tested with an AMP or OHM meter. Projector lamps function by igniting ultra-high pressurized mercury vapor accross an ARC tube. At the point where the mercury vapor resides there is no conductive electrical material and therefore testing a projector lamp with an AMP or OHM will not work. Back To Top

Why should we buy from Advanced Lamps over our current supplier?

Advanced Lamps specializes in projection lamps. This focus has allowed us tremendous growth and with that growth, buying power. We have been long urged to cease selling direct to the public and to revert to wholesaling to retailers only. Letís be real, in the real world people do not budget for replacement lamps. In the educational world, budgets need to be extended as far as possible to provide the most efficient learning environment possible. It just makes sense to eliminate all of the middle industries that drive a products cost upward. At Advanced Lamps the knowledge, experience, and coverage is what remains high Ė not the price.
